My Mother and all her brothers &sisters attended St Mary,s Catholic School in West Melbourne (there were 8 in the family)(they lived in Curzon Street) & my three Brothers attended CBC at North, and my sister and I attended St Aloysius, we lived in Erskine street, North Melbourne. My sister and I used to have “Irish Dancing Lessons” in the little old St Mary,s Hall, taught by Geraldine O, Shea. Our Mother,s parents Michael&Brigid Meere were both born in Ireland & met and married in Melb &reared their family in North Melbourne Our Uncle John Meere was Treasurer and President of the North Melbourne Footy Club, and was a Councillor for Nth Melbourne.
We all attended Mass at St Michael,s Catholic Church in Dryburgh street, and most of the homes had Irish Catholic Descendants residing there.
Was a safe place, and everyone knew each other, and have wonderful memories of the people and the area, and the great times had there.
